We've never had a car payment and almost never use credit cards (and pay them off immediately when we do use them). My daughter is only five, but understands that everything costs money, and that Mommy has to work for the money. They would farm their acreage for three years and then move to a virgin plot, leaving the old spot devoid of nutrients. With cheap (free!) land all around, they couldn't conceive of a reason to be careful with it.Wilhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16358496556865231547noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6240853645289438473.post-43819338741294606522015-01-06T06:48:14.571-08:002015-01-06T06:48:14.571-08:00Another entry indeed... Most people don't become parents when they're nearly 40. Maybe if I'd had kids younger, I wouldn't have been ready to declutter. Who knows? :-)Wilhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16358496556865231547noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6240853645289438473.post-58152233954526181482015-01-04T17:53:28.024-08:002015-01-04T17:53:28.024-08:00To borrow an Aussie phrase I've always liked: ...To borrow an Aussie phrase I've always liked: Good on you!
I find that the mental decluttering is critical. It (for me anyway) is what makes the physical decluttering permanent. I had to go through that when I was decluttering 70 pounds of extra Lorella a few years ago. There was so much I was hiding behind, not only extra layers of fat. But that's another blog post altogether.
I think it was in my mid 30's that I made some healthy decisions that impacted every area of my life and that's when most of my self-growth started really showing.
-LNot A Farm Girlhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15562021238302846115noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6240853645289438473.post-65712862774637064072015-01-03T15:18:27.754-08:002015-01-03T15:18:27.754-08:00re: Questions in your last paragraph...

I realized there are things many of us do every day that take time away from more important things. I called my process "decluttering". It was a physical process too -- getting rid of hundreds of old things I've kept for no good reason, and thousands of documents, but mostly it's an ongoing mental battle. You're right: &q...So I'm a little behind... You're right: "I'm sorry" (or some variation) is the natural response to this. Maybe it's because it's the easiest thing to say, and so many of us are lazy in our social responses -- especially to not-so-good news. "Is there something I can do" might be a better response, but we (I include myself in "we") are afraid it will involve a commitment.

I'm glad you're taking action.
